One Month Down

This picture seemed fitting for one month of trainings down. Also because I admire our troops and find them to be inspirational. True story.
Ok so I know that technically speaking the only two humans in the world reading this right now are Craig and Alex. But I am still going to address my readers in large quantities in case one day my blog becomes huge and people follow the chronicles of my trainings religiously. That is all.
Hello fans. I’m back, hope you didn’t miss me. Training really ramped up during week 4. Here’s what happened:
udemy is the shit.
I feel so strongly about Udemy’s superiority that I cussed on the interwebs (yes, this is a word). For week 4 trainings, I did the Udemy course on Power Blogging 101 . Ok, wow. I know I am behind on the game, but I am very much in love with Udemy. It’s such an amazing resource packed full of invaluable information. The videos are great because the “teacher” (in this case it was Logan Wenger .) isn’t worried about formalities too much, it’s set up to be a very casual discussion. I love how his screen is shared, and he very carefully walks you through each step.
But here’s my absolute favorite part of Udemy. Mr.Wenger kindly shares with you all the websites he uses. For example, he talks about how imperative it is to know your customer demographic and the landscape of your niche. He then logs onto www.alexa.com , a website specialized in competitive intelligence and strategic insight. Due to the fact that I still consider myself a newbie to the tech industry, and I just recently turned of legal drinking age (WOO!), I don’t know a lot of tips & tricks – yet. Truthfully, I would have never known to go to this website if it weren’t for taking this Udemy course. The rest of the course was full of other extremely helpful websites, and incredible information about how to create a successful blog. Which is perfect timing for Red Bridge, all things considered. I could spend the rest of this blog post talking about how much I enjoyed this Udemy course, but I must move on. Long story short, Udemy is the shit.
blogs for days.
Alright, 2nd task was to read Quicksprout’s blog post, The 5 Stages of Blog Growth: How Your Traffic Tactics Should Change as You Grow . Even though this was a particularly long blog post, it was really informative. And, any information I can absorb about blogs is always a huge plus. Here are my favorite key takeaways:
- Gather your 100 true fans – these fans will play an instrumental role in the growth of your blog; these fans are loyal and will provide valuable feedback
- Use the “Poster Boy” formula – find a few particular influencers, and find a particular piece of strategy or technique advice from them
- Be selective
- Monetize (as quickly as possible) – once you develop a sizable audience, most go with 5,000-10,000 subscribers
I really liked how the layout of this blog post was chronological, it helps me visualize how long it will take for Project Burrito to be a kick-ass blog.
re-engagement.
Technically speaking, this week’s Digital Marketer EP was supposed to be on Twitter Ad Hacks, but I already wrote about that last week since we got to choose. So this week, I chose 9-Part Email Subscriber Win Back Campaign .
For this week’s EP, the topic was reengaging your email subscribers and knocking them off their feet (with ridiculously creative email content).
Re-engagement email #1
- intentionally subtle
- a little good will content in the P.S. to encourage re-engagement
Re-engagement email #2
- sent 2 days after email #1
- a bit less subtle – reference the fact it’s been 30+ days
Re-engagement email #3
- sent 2 days after email #2
- switch gears, and offer a survey to encourage reengagement
Re-engagement email #4
- the second email in the survey siphon campaign
- more as an “I need help” message than email #3
The second part of this EP was the “Win-Back” emails. Which essentially consisted of a 4 emails that offer a mystery bonus, and by the 5th email it get to the unsubscribe stage if the subscriber still has not interacted with you. The last part of this EP is the “Welcome Back” email. Here’s the example they used:
download – sublime text 3 & install emmet
Check.
dunce cap for E.
The last part of training was to complete the code challenge which I, regrettably, did not get to. Honestly, it was poor time management on my part between other work and then personal stuff. But it will be done this weekend and then I will come in and change this pitiful portion of my blog post. Don’t look at me – I’m ashamed.
That concludes the first month of trainings! Huge shoutout to my fans for staying loyal for 4 weeks. See you next week.
